March 18, 2024 – SHIRLEY reviews are in after its theatrical release on March 15. Deadline touches on the perseverance that went into getting the story of Rep. Shirley Chisholm’s legacy out in the world and why it was so important to do so. Saying, “You can absolutely see why King tried so hard to get this made. It is a rich role and she nails it, blending the charisma, confidence, plucky fight and determination that made Chisholm such a unique political figure.”
King went on ‘Good Morning America’ to speak about her role as producer and star in the film. She also spoke about why she was determined to share this story saying she, “…felt like there were so many people who didn’t know who Shirley Chisholm is, who she was, and that bugged us.”
SHIRLEY is currently in select theaters and is coming to Netflix on March 22! Check out the trailer here.
