Participant Media received Armed Forces Foundation’s Patriot of the Year Award

Participant was honored for its yearlong “Return the Service” campaign supporting Ric Roman Waugh’s documentary That Which I Love Destroys Me. The film, funded by the Armed Forces Foundation, aired on Pivot and TakePart.com. The award was presented by Congressman Tim Murphy, a clinical psychologist and Naval reservist who is featured in the film.

In a taped message, Jeff Skoll, said, “The commitment and courage of veterans and active service members is an inspiration to all of us at Participant Media. That Which I Love Destroys Me and its companion campaign, ‘Return the Service,’ were conceived to ignite action on PTSD and support for our service men and women. We see this film as just one part of a movement to recognize their unique experiences and needs, and it is an honor for our work to be recognized with this year’s Armed Forces Foundation Patriot Award.”

The Patriot of the Year award is given to the corporation that best embodies the Armed Forces Foundation’s motto “Serving those who Serve.”
The event brought together more than 75 members of Congress to help honor the nation’s service members, veterans, and their families – many recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir’s Warrior Transition Brigade, and from other installations.
