Participant Announces New Narrative & Documentary Series, ‘The Forgotten Revolutionary’
February 29, 2024 – Participant announced exclusively with Deadline new projects in development based on LAist Studios award-winning podcast The Imperfect Paradise: The Forgotten Revolutionary. In partnership with LAist Studios and Juan Devis’ Ninetythree Media both a narrative series and documentary limited series are in the works.
The podcast, which won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, explores Chicano community injustice through the lens of journalist Adolfo Guzman-Lopez as he investigates the life and legacy of Oscar Gomez, a college student and radio host, after he is found dead on the Santa Barbara shore in 1994. Gomez had been widely known for being one of the leading voices in California’s Chicano student rights movement, deepening the mystery and urgency around the circumstances of his death.
“Adolfo’s podcast is a riveting look at the heroism of Oscar Gomez’s activism and the tragedy of his death,” said Participant’s Miura Kite, Executive Vice President of Global Television; and Courtney Sexton, Executive Vice President, Documentary Film and Television, in a joint statement. “At Participant we champion untold stories that correct false narratives, and we’re excited to work with Juan, Adolfo and LAist Studios to tell Oscar’s important story.”
