Larrain’s drama will vie for foreign-lingo Oscar nom
Chile has sent Pablo Larrain’s “No” to vie for a foreign language Oscar.
Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, “No” has reaped a clutch of awards since its world preem in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight where it took home the top prize and where Sony Pictures Classics picked up North American rights. Participant Media, which chose “No” as its first investment in a foreign pic, negotiated the deal with SPC.
Based on actual events, “No” is a gripping account of how advertising execs, led by Garcia Bernal’s lead character, helped oust Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
