Lynn Hirshfield

Head of Strategic Alliances and Publishing

Lynn Hirshfield is Participant’s Head of Strategic Alliances and Publishing. She joined Participant in September 2005 and is responsible for leading the development of opportunities and partnerships to support the company’s production, campaigns, and engagement. She has worked on over 130 films and media projects for the company including innovative campaigns for An Inconvenient Truth, Food, Inc., Waiting for Superman, and most recently Flee and Final Account.

Hirshfield launched Participant’s publishing division to complement the company’s films and impact campaigns. As Publisher for the PublicAffairs/Hachette imprint, she has released eight books, two of which hit number one on The New York Times bestseller list. Hirshfield is the author of the award-winning young activist guide “Girls Gone Green” for Puffin Books, Penguin’s “Sassafras” series, and two game apps for young readers. She is currently working on a series of four more books for Hachette and Participant.

Before joining Participant, Hirshfield worked as a development executive for productions garnering several awards, including four Emmys®, a Peabody Award, a Humanitas Prize, and two Television Critics Awards – among them the popular PBS series Wishbone. She served as a specialist in adapting books to film and TV for National Geographic Feature Films, Scott Rudin, Norman Lear, Tim Burton, Sony, Fox, and Warner Bros. Studios. She produced two documentaries directed by award-winning director/producer James Keach: Augie and Steampower.

Hirshfield is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and Harvard University and served for two years in the IDF as a commando. She is an advisor to the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, SCAD’s Savannah Film Festival, Earth HQ, Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, National Academy of Sciences, Fed By Blue, Lexicon of Sustainability, and U.S. State Dept. Global Partnerships.
