On the Way to the Top Five individuals with smarts, savvy and a feel for the future Gabriel Brakin Brakin’s recent high-profile finance/distribution deals include “Lincoln” with DreamWorks, “Promised Land” with Focus Features, “The Help” with DreamWorks, “Contagion” with Warner Bros. and “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” with Fox Searchlight. “And now we’re doing our first foreign-language film, the Chilean picture ‘No,’ with Sony Pictures Classics, out in February, which has done very well on the festival circuit,” he says. “We’re also doing an untitled film on Cesar Chavez out of Mexico — so we’ve really hit our stride over the past two years and seen some great successes.” Despite the ongoing economic uncertainty, Brakin characterizes the film business as “pretty steady. I see us continuing to invest at the same pace, if not increasing it, over the next few years, as we’ve built a pretty solid brand.”

The next decade: “Helping Participant accomplish its goal of becoming a global media company by expanding its film, television and digital businesses and spearheading its entry into Latin America and other foreign markets.”
