Four Participant Documentaries Advance to Oscar Shortlist

All four documentaries that Participant Media submitted for Academy consideration this year have advanced to the shortlist.

Best of Enemies, He Named Me Malala, The Look of Silence, and 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets are among the 15 feature documentaries chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 2016 Oscar® contention.

The final five nominees will be announced on January 14. The Oscars® ceremony takes place on February 28. For the complete list, click here.

Participant is part of films that won four Gotham Independent Film Awards on November 30 – a company record. Spotlight swept the awards, winning for Best Feature and Best Screenplay (Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer). The Spotlight cast accepted the specially created Jury Award for its entire principal cast.

The Look of Silence won for Best Documentary. The film is Joshua Oppenheimer’s follow-up to The Act of Killing, which picked up the Best Documentary award in 2013. Click here for a complete list of winners.
