‘Deepwater Horizon’ And ‘Denial’ Nominated for 2017 BAFTA Awards

LOS ANGELES (January 10, 2017) – Deepwater Horizon and Denial received British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominations.

Deepwater Horizon is nominated for Sound. Inspired by the thrilling story of real-life heroes on a burning oil rig, the film is directed by Peter Berg from a screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Matthew Sand, and from a screen story by Matthew Sand.

The film stars Academy Award® nominee Mark Wahlberg, Golden Globe® nominee Kurt Russell, Academy Award® nominee John Malkovich, Golden Globe® winner Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien and Academy Award® nominee Kate Hudson.

Denial – nominated for Outstanding British Film – stars Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz (The Deep Blue Sea, The Constant Gardener), two-time Academy Award® nominee Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton, Selma), and Cannes Award winning Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner, Harry Potter).

The film, based on the acclaimed book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier, recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, the burden of proof is on the accused; therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred.

Denial is directed by Emmy^® winner Mick Jackson (“Temple Grandin”) and adapted for the screen by BAFTA and Academy Award^® nominee David Hare (The Reader, The Hours).
