Academy Award® Winners Anne Hathaway And Tim Robbins Join Oscar® Nominee Mark Ruffalo to Star in Participant’s Feature Film Inspired by Dupont Environmental Suit

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 9, 2019) – Participant Media announced today that Oscar® and Golden Globe® winners Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables, Rachel Getting Married, The Dark Knight) and Tim Robbins (Mystic River) will star alongside previously announced Oscar® nominee Mark Ruffalo in the feature film based on Nathaniel Rich’s New York Times Magazine’s article “The Lawyer Who Became DuPont’s Worst Nightmare.” Emmy® nominee Bill Camp (Vice, Molly’s Game, ‘The Night Of’), Emmy nominee Victor Garber (Titanic, Argo, ‘Alias’), Oscar nominee Mare Winningham (Georgia, ‘The Affair’), William Jackson Harper (‘The Good Place’, Paterson) and Bill Pullman (‘The Sinner’, Independence Day, Battle of the Sexes) have also joined the cast of the film directed by Oscar nominee Todd Haynes from a script written by Matthew Carnahan and Mario Correa.

Ruffalo will also produce the film, with Killer Films’ Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon. Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King will executive produce, along with Michael Sledd. Robert Bilott, the corporate defense attorney who took on an environmental suit against the chemical company DuPont, will serve as a consultant on the film, with Participant’s Robert Kessel overseeing development and production on behalf of the company.

Production of the film will commence next week in Cincinnati.

Inspired by a true story, the untitled film centers around Bilott, played by Ruffalo, whose environmental suit against Dupont would expose a decades-long history of chemical pollution. Participant also has optioned the life rights of Bilott.

Participant recently won five Golden Globe® Awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy for Green Book and Best Foreign Language Film, Roma. Both films also received Producers Guild Awards nominations for Outstanding Producer of a Theatrical Motion Picture, along with RBG, nominated for Outstanding Producer of a Documentary Motion Picture.
