‘A Monster Calls’ Actor Lewis MacDougall Wins London Critics’ Circle Film Award
LOS ANGELES (January 22, 2017) – A Monster Calls actor Lewis MacDougall was named Young British/Irish Performer of the Year at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.
The 14-year-old actor stars as Conor, who attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss and faith.
A Monster Calls is a visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona, based on Patrick Ness’s award-winning children’s fantasy novel of the same name. Ness also wrote the screenplay.
The cast also includes Academy Award nominees Liam Neeson, who stars in performance-capture and voiceover as the nocturnally visiting monster of the title, and Sigourney Weaver as Conor’s maternal grandmother; and Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), as Conor’s father.
