November 3, 2021 – MUBI has acquired North American and select international rights to Participant’s powerful climate change documentary Invisible Demons. The acclaimed film, directed by filmmaker Rahul Jain (Machines), received its World Premiere at this year’s Cannes Official Selection, followed by festival screenings at the Zurich Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival, among others. The US premiere will be held at DOC NYC in November. MUBI will release Invisible Demons in 2022 in select US theaters and on its streaming platform in North America, United Kingdom, Latin America, Germany, Turkey, Malaysia, and India.

Told through striking images and eye-opening accounts from everyday citizens fighting to survive, Invisible Demons offers a new perspective on the clear and present climate reality. The film delivers a visceral and immersive journey through the devastating effects of climate change, explored through the stories of just a few of Delhi's 30 million inhabitants. Jain engages the senses by directly stimulating our desire to live in a world with equitable access to clean air and water.

We are very proud of Rahul’s documentary which was incredibly well received at Cannes this year,” said David Linde, Participant’s CEO. “Having an innovative distributor like MUBI showcase his look at the climate crisis will magnify this important work to a worldwide audience, all of whom are facing a new climate reality.”

Invisible Demons implores audiences to examine the increasingly urgent global climate crisis, an issue Participant has been devoted to addressing through previous films including An Inconvenient Truth and Dark Waters.

Invisible Demons was executive produced and co-financed by Participant. It was produced by Toinen Katse and Ma.Ja.De. FilmProduktions, with support from FFF-MDM-YLE-AVEK. Producers are Iikka Vehkalahti and Heino Deckert, and Yaël Bitton served as editor and co-wrote alongside Vehkalahti and Jain. Participant and MK2 Films are handling global sales. MUBI, Participant’s Rob Williams, and MK2’s Fionnuala Jamison negotiated the deal.

Invisible Demons is one of the latest films MUBI has acquired for various international rights this year, including festival opener Annette from Leos Carax, Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta, Joachim Trier’s Worst Person in the World, Bergman Island from Mia Hansen-Løve, Andrea Arnold’s Cow, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Memoria, Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb, Titane from Julia Ducournau and Sebastien Meise’s Great Freedom.

Participant’s other recent film releases include Stillwater, starring Matt Damon, which also had its premiere at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival alongside Invisible Demons, and the documentaries My Name Is Pauli Murray, which is now in theaters and Amazon Prime, The First Wave, and Flee which will both be released in theaters this fall.
